Birth Story
This past week was a week that we will always remember and NEVER expected! Monday I had to be in court for a jury summons. My Dr. assured me that there was NO way someone would pick a pregnant lady who was due in 2 weeks! I had to call everyday to listen for my name to see if I was to report to jury duty. Bryan had been out of town in Corpus Christi on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday night I was having some contractions and had a "talk" with Maddox about how he needed to stay put until his daddy was back from his trip. Thursday Bryan was in Beaumont in meetings and walked in the door around 6:00 pm. I had just called and found out that I was to report to Crystal Beach, which meant that I would have to ride the ferry. That idea was a little frightening, what if I went into labor, what if my water broke? Knowing I was still 12 days away from my scheduled c-section date (November 1st) I decided I would call my Dr. on the way to Galveston to check with him. We sat down, ate dinner and talked about how we wanted a relaxing evening because the week had been so exhausting. I had still been having contractions every 18-20 minutes on and off. We put Hudson to bed and I was about to go get ready for bed. I sat down and had a bad contraction, 6 minutes later I had another. This continued for 30 minutes, Bryan decided that we should call the Dr. I called the Dr on call and he called my parents. Within 20 minutes our bags were thrown together and we were heading to the hospital, my mom in tow. They admitted me to Labor & Delivery and decided that I was dehydrated and that with fluids my contractions should either slow or go away. As they predicted my labor slowed from contractions every 2-4 minutes to every 10-12 over night. Friday morning at 7:30 am my Doctor came in and checked me, my cervix was completely thinned and he felt that it was hours before I was in "active" labor. The decision was made that Maddox would be born in a matter of hours! Of course I had concerns being that I was 37 weeks, 4 days pregnant with a boy. I was assured that he would be ready and at most he would need a little oxygen to get him going. At 9:30 am we walked into the OR. They prepped me, I got my spinal epidural and they brought Bryan in. As they were doing the section Dr. Korman said "Oh Stephanie, this is a big baby!" At 10:05 Maddox was born and we heard the sweet sound of his cry. He is completely healthy! We are truly blessed!
